Do you know what a backlink is? A backlink is a html link that is directed to your website from an external site. Backlinks are very important to your Search Engine Optimization of your website. Most of the time your backlinks link to your home page but occasionally they will link to an internal page within your site. This is called “deep linking” and will increase the rankings of those internal pages in the search engines.

The greater the number of backlinks pointing to your website, the more the search engines will appreciate and trust the content on your site. The original Google algorithm placed a very high importance on backlinks when calculating where to place your site in the search engine result pages (SERP’s). In today’s algorithm, the calculation used for backlinks is much more complicated and does not carry the same weight that it did then.

The Google search engine uses a calculated value called PageRank (PR) that is based on the number of backlinks to your site. SEO gurus have downplayed the importance of the PageRank value when calculating the placement in the SERP’s. The ranking algorithm has literally hundreds of factors that all have different impact on the calculation. It is almost impossible to guess all of the factors and how they affect ranking. One thing has remained pretty constant over time and that is backlinks.

You may also hear backlinks referred to as inbound links, inward links, incoming links, or inlinks. All of these terms are synonymous with each other.

Backlinks can be used to find related websites that have linked to you, gauge your website popularity (or someone else’s), and view what others may have written about the page being linked. When looking for the quantity of backlinks to your site, Yahoo is much better at reporting the real backlinks.

In an effort to hide the details of their search algorithm, Google will only show a partial list of backlinks. Remember when analyzing your backlinks that some pages may not have the true PageRank displayed because the page was added since the last Google PageRank update.

If my site links to yours then I’m essentially giving you a vote for your site. It used to be (and in some search engines it still is) the only thing that was important to rank high. But, over time, the search engines have been forced to look at other factor due to website spam. The search engines are now looking at the context of the page the link is on and may be looking at the context of the page the link is pointing to. This is called page relevance.

There are numerous methods for obtaining backlinks to your site. Some of those are:

1. Web Directories

2. Article Sites like ezinearticles.com

3. Adding meaning full comments to related forums and blogs

4. Purchased links (currently frowned upon by Google)

5. 1 way or reciprocal link exchanges - 1 way links are much more desirable

Tip: Don’t just worry about getting backlinks from high PR sites. A natural pattern of link gathering would be to have more links from lower PR sites because of their sheer quantity when compared to high PR sites.

The wanted result of getting all these backlinks to your site is to increase the natural search engine traffic that is directed to your site by being on the first page of the SERP’s. But you should also see some traffic that comes to your sites through the backlinks themselves. So, when getting backlinks, you want to keep the reader in mind and try to make it enticing for the reader to click your link because there is something on the other end that they need.

When you are thinking about starting up your own online business you will want to have a pre-launch plan in place before jumping in with both feet. Consider it the blue print to creating a successful business.

I cringe at it now, but when I look at my first business plan, it was a disaster, and it wasn’t (in retrospect) that my internet business failed spectacularly. I hadn’t put together a realistic budget, and I’d just assumed that marketing would “happen on its own”. I took out a loan, based on a second mortgage without identifying where the revenue potentials were.

I designed my own web site, rather than hiring someone to do it for me. Now, I’d taken a college extension course, and I read a few books about Meta tags, but when I look at my old site, I sigh. It was overly elaborate, it barely used CSS style sheets, and it was more work than was feasible to maintain. This time around, I hired a pro - and they installed a lot of server side tools, like WordPress, to let me focus on running my internet business, not maintaining my web site.

About the only thing I did right last time was learn the ins and outs of using Register.com for setting up my domain names. My designer helped me find a hosting provider who could install the software I wanted to make this all work, which helped a lot.

Internet speed is one important aspect of My Internet Business Pre-Launch plan that I think many people do not take into consideration. No one surfing the net will want to wait a long time for your page to load onto their computer. So unless you plan to only target customers with high speed internet access, remember all the glitz and flashiness will not matter much to those who do not have the time to load it.

If you want to target everyone from high speed internet to dial up and GPRS modem users then keep it simple and to the point. More is not always better, especially if no one stays around to see it.

So, the next step, after the site is up, is bringing in visitors. This is the marketing part of the business plan, and near the end of the pre flight check list. In most cases, this means getting your shop into the top twenty results for a search engine keyword hit. There are countless articles on how to do this, but the realistic way to do it is Google Ad Words.

A sure fire method it getting traffic to your store is to get your business in the top twenty search engine results. Keep your business in plain sight for everyone to see. Advertise on related web sites and you will see customer traffic begin to pull into your web site. Back links, keywords, SEO’s, and strategically placed ads should all be created by your design firm, and will get you high search engine rankings.

The Dream of Internet Marketing from home sounds great but there are three things working against you and you have to guard against them. The first thing is working on your own, the second is the temptation to jump from one program to the next and the third the constant bombardment of new products and the temptations they provide. How are you to overcome these distractions?

Self-Discipline

If you are to work from home it is going to take some serious discipline if you are to make your business a success. You have to decide when to work. You have to make sure you don’t get lazy and waste a morning or an afternoon here and there. Always be determined to get up away from the TV and do something constructive for your business.

You are totally on your own. Keep the discipline up and make sure you schedule your time effectively. This is going to be vital to your business.

Internet Marketers sign up on people’s list. It’s what we do. We want to know if anybody out there has discovered something that can help us. Make a list of only the vital lists you want to be on. Periodically change your email address and only update those vital lists and your contact list. Why spend two hours a day wading through all those emails and deleting them when you can be much more productive?

Signing up for two or three e-mail lists should be enough. Limit it to the experts you really want to hear from. Or better yet, subscribe to their RSS feeds.

It also takes self-discipline to not purchase every new product that comes out with big promises of making you big money or simplifying your life. The basic rule to follow is if it doesn’t help you in the area you have chosen to focus in, or if you already have more than enough, then pass it by.

Products that do deserve some consideration and those that may cut your workload down by automating some part of it. Do consider these as your time is one of your most precious commodities. This could possibly include using a service that will take care of some of your jobs more efficiently. These could be wise investments.

But if it is a product that teaches something that you really don’t need at this point, then don’t fall for it. A new drill could be tempting but if you already had one that did the job your money would stay in your pocket. Be prepared to let it pass.

Stay on Focus

Which leads to the next point, stay on focus. It is so incredibly easy to jump from one thing to another. First, you need to have a business plan. Second, you need to stick with that plan.

If, after a reasonable amount of effort and time you find that your program or project is not working out for you the it may be time to consign it to the failed enterprises folder. Not everything works and there will be some casualties along the way. Make sure you’re not giving up on something just because something else looks new and exciting though. Do this once and you could be business hopping forever.

Working from home is very exciting at first but like most things it can become routine and certain tasks become humdrum. It’s a good idea to network with other home business owners from time to time and maybe change the routine around some after a period. Don’t become bored with your business.

Be aware that it may take a while before you have your business plan sufficiently fluid that you can maintain your business tasks without it becoming tedious. Constantly monitor your plan and tweak it rather than abandon it at the first sign of boredom. Don’t dump a perfectly good plan for the sake of a couple of tweaks.

Online, you can find a lot of tracking software affiliate programs. If you own a company that seeks to create your own affiliate program, you must familiarize yourself with all of these programs. If you need a tracking software affiliation, you will be presented with so many choices that you do not know what kind of software is best for your needs. The first step is to Affiliate Tracking Resources - Partners Manager.

In their search, they are likely to be found with PartnersManager Affiliate Software. Whether you own a small or large business online, you can see that this program is exactly what you need. However, it is not safe to assume it is. On the other hand, you want to further examine the PartnersManager Affiliate Software. By doing so, you will want to consider the requirements of software and services and features that are included with the program.

PartnersManager Affiliate Software requires that the system has a minimum of PHP 4.1.0. Also you need to have MySQL, version 3.23 or higher, and MySQL database. For a web service, it is recommended that you have IIS or Apache. From the above specifications are considered computer requirements, which are needed to run the program. If your computer is not equipped to handle the PartnersManager Affiliate Software, but you want to affiliate tracking this software program, customers are encouraged to update their equipment to meet its standards.

When examining any affiliate tracking software, including the PartnersManager Affiliate Software, you are advised to examine what the program will require you to do. This often includes setup and installation. What is nice about PartnersManager is that they provide you with downloadable user manuals and demos before you even signup for their program. This is important because not all software providers do this, even though they should. Perhaps, user manuals and demos are the best way to determine whether or not the PartnersManager Affiliate Software is what you need.

With PartnersManager Affiliate Software, a detailed user’s guide will not be all that you receive. Once you register for the service software, you will find that a lot is included in the purchase price. For example, all subscribers will be able to receive three months free customer support. These three months are just enough time for you to get acquainted with the software and learn how to use it without assistance. Among other features, such as cookies enabled software and detailed earnings reports are included with the software tracking affiliate.

Unlike other affiliate tracking software, PartnersManager also gives you the option to try their service for free. This free trial is for a one month period. After the trail period has ended, you can determine whether or not you would like to continue on with a paid membership. This effective, but easy to use software program is what so many business owners want and need that many continue on with the paid service. If you decide to do that too, you will only have to pay a onetime license fee; there will be no monthly payments required. You will also receive free software updates whenever they become available.

PartnersManager was and is still used by many business owners online. Of course, this does not necessarily mean that the programme will be for you, but with a little research, you should easily be able to determine if it is.

One can not fail but be astounded by the train of thought exhibited by Brian Burke of eBay. He says, to quote him verbatim “Digital goods are often reproduced at little to no cost to the seller. On eBay, this creates the potential for Feedback Manipulation (both real and perceived)”.

To speak to the costs of reproduction, One wonders what he might say to the concept of drug companies spending untold amounts of money on research and development, then being able to manufacture their product for nearly nothing. This of course, does not change the fact that large amounts of money have been spend on the development of the product.

The question may also be asked: just what does the cost of producing a product have to do with a product or service being able to survive in the free market? Just like any other product out there, the development process is not free. Why should a digital product be treated differently? Just because the form is electronic, that makes it no less valuable or worthless in and of itself. I’ve paid very little for digital products which I felt were worth far more than what I paid. To Mr. Burke, the expense and time involved in the creation of a digital product is worth nothing at all.

Is eBay claiming I was somehow abused because I got a good product at a low price? Wasn’t it their developers that created special digital delivery enabled listings by meeting with and discussing the benefits with the eBay selling community?

Getting back to feedback manipulation, you can receive bad feedback even from as little as a single sale for a penny! Personally, I have left a bad review for a product I paid only a dollar for (even at a dollar, I still felt cheated). It is doubtful that the seller in this case was happy to receive this feedback. This is just to illustrate my point here. I have paid far more for digitally delivered products - occasionally they were not worth what I paid for them either. No matter how you pay and regardless of the nature of the product, you can still end up feeling you haven’t got your money’s worth.

eBay’s listings, of course are not free. The seller has to pay in order to list his or her products.

It would be nice to know the real motivation why eBay seems to want to destroy an entire industry when there are many ways to remedy their supposed problem. eBay provides the service. They tout it as a method of advertising products and services at a reasonable cost. Now all of a sudden eBay decides that entrepreneurs who craft products that fill this niche are scamming the system.

An easily implemented solution to the issue eBay cites is to simply discount, or to ignore altogether, feedback relating to items whose sale price falls below a certain threshold.

I do think eBay will come to their senses and adjust this policy so it can filter out all of the policy violators without destroying lives and businesses. I have seen some negative posts about this ebook and that ebook ruining the industry because they don’t like the content or some other reason. The fact is, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure and just because one individual can look at an ebook and think it is beneath him/her does not mean someone else does not derive a great benefit from it.

Let’s work to get Ebay to be realistic, humane, and simply use good business sense and straighten this out.

My 2 cents worth,

Knowing that your target market knows how to find you is a great beginning. But wait, there’s more to it than just hoping they’ll contact you. It’s very important that your niche market finds you, but you have to reach out to them which is part of the online traffic formula which uncovers how to communicate effectively.

Traditional businesses hand out cards and brochures that have your Web links on them so they can sign up for your online newsletter. This is a great strategy. You must however follow through with providing them quality content.

When you get the prospects contact information you can now promote your products and services to them. For example, an online newsletter can be sent out by an auto responder that you don’t have to pay for postage, and it takes much less time on your part. People love free online newsletters and products too. Give them a free eBook, or special reports that help them with the product they purchased. This is a great approach to keep your customers coming back for more.

Did you know that your contact with your target market is a great way to develop a good reputation and relationship with them? That’s right. It is extremely important to develop this trust. This makes people feel more comfortable with you and it builds their confidence in you and your product.

A lot of internet marketing is about building relationships through consistency of your efforts. People gain trust when they see your product, name, or service over and over. Think of the commercials you see on the television and the internet.

Speaking of websites, yours must be of good, relevant content. Don’t stray away from the subject of the product you are trying to sell. Keep your target market interested and don’t bore them with too much text.

If you have done any searching on the Internet, you know that it is a place full of forums, blogs, and the like. Well, this is your opportunity to plug into a forum or blog with the subject of your particular niche. What should you do? Jump in and reply. The only stipulation is you can’t advertise here, but you can add a link at the end with your signature.

A great free method which should be part of your online traffic formula is using blogs and forums. These are excellent free methods of advertising your links. Be sure to seek these out with care for relevancy.
