For those of you who sell digital products via the internet you may want to read this very carefully because you are probably losing a fortune. Digital piracy is becoming an ever increasing problem if you deliver word documents, ebooks, PDF’s, software, video’s, and more. Illegal access to protected content is growing right along with the internet. If you are not protecting you digital assets than it is time you start.

What annoys me most is that over half of internet users feel it is OK to share protected content. Since information is what the internet mainly provides most users have no idea how perplexing a problem digital piracy has become. Digital piracy is now a multi billion dollar industry.

Due to the fact that many people feel that the large industries like Microsoft and the record companies are being hurt the most they don’t seem to be overly concerned. Many of the writers, software developers, and internet marketers do not realize the impact that not protecting their digital assets is having on them and it is costing them dearly.

If you are a digital retailer than you more than likely use a shopping cart with some form of built in protection system. What then is protecting your files after the sale has been made? When someone asks you for a refund but keeps the product don’t you feel as though you have been robbed? There have been many times that I had to refund a purchase knowing that the customer did not have time to even look at their purchase. I sure feel as though I was ripped off when that occurred. Digital asset protection software would have given me the ability to repossess my files.

Take a look at what the impact of digital piracy may have on you. What if you sell an average of 100 ebooks each month at $37 each. That would be a total of $3,700 per month. If you end up refunding 8% of those purchases then you just had $296 basically stolen from you which adds up to over $3,500 per year. That is only the beginning because many more share your files with friends and family. Many more feel it is OK to share your files on forums. Then some might even resell your files.

You can stop worrying because there is now digital asset protection software available. There are couple of products that have the ability to completely protect you. When you start looking for a product to protect your files from digital pirates there are some features you are going to want to make sure they have.

First thing to look for is a product that allows you to protect unlimited files. Make sure they have the ability to immediately disable, lock down and repossess your files. A great feature to look for is a product which allows you to to set expiration dates and trial periods. You will also want to find a product which can track usage which prevents sharing.

The sooner you start protecting your digital products the sooner your income will start to grow. You will start to see more sales, less refunds, and more money in the bank! Wouldn’t it be absolutely priceless to see the look on the face of one of your customers who refunded their product and then tried to use it.
